THE NEED: 24/7 CRISIS CARE
Mental health and substance use crises can happen to anyone at any time. An immediate response is often needed when an individual’s normal coping mechanisms are overwhelmed.
This is especially important when the person is at risk of harming themselves or others, or if there is potential for substance use withdrawal.
Today, the CORE Center is located in the old emergency room at the Benedictine Center at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, and in just one year we are already outgrowing the space.
THE SOLUTION:
The new CORE Center will provide the space we need to meet the ever-growing demand for crisis care both now and in the future. A 14-bed unit designed with safety in mind will serve both children and adults, providing:
- A safe place to ask for help
- Immediate risk assessment
- Short-term overnight stabilization
- Safe, medically-monitored withdrawal treatment from alcohol and drugs
- Safety planning and follow-up
- Support for family members and loved ones
- Support for law enforcement and first responders
